Sacrifice
“A religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation; for, from the first existence of man, the faith necessary unto the enjoyment of life and salvation never could be obtained without the sacrifice of all earthly things. It was through this sacrifice of all earthly things. It was through this sacrifice, and this only, that God has ordained that man should enjoy eternal life.”
– Joseph Smith
“If it was for the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, pain means nothing to me.”
– Spencer W. Kimball
“Can you call it a sacrifice if you give up a handful of dust in return for a whole earth?”
– Brigham Young
“Never give up what you want most for what you want today.”
– Neal A. Maxwell
“‘Always remember him’ … This remembrance may also bring consolation as we bear our own crosses in life – for even as Christ suffered to more perfectly know us, we suffer sometimes to know him.”
– Bruce D. Porter
“The passage of time dims our memories and diminishes our appreciation for those who walked the path of pain, leaving behind a tear-marked trial of nameless graves. But what of today’s challenges? Are there no rocky roads to travel, no rugged mountains to climb, no chasms to cross, no trails to blaze, no rivers to ford? Or is there a very present need for that pioneer spirit to guide us away from the dangers that threaten to engulf us and to lead us to a Zion of Safety?”
– Thomas S. Monson
“You will come to know that what appears today to be a sacrifice will prove instead to be the greatest investment that you will ever make.”
– Gordon B. Hinckley
“Our achievement must stand alone of ourselves. We cannot place other’s trophies made of sacrifice and faith on our mantles. These are theirs and we must make our own.”
– Dieter F. Uchtdorf
